The program is designed to provide students with an opportunity to engage in critical math topics through hands-on, student centered activities using interactive technology tools, applets, hardware and innovative software programs.


The activities will include hands-on use of computers and innovative, free, and open software.
Students will:
  • Explore a range of Open Education Resources relative to Mathematics
  • Use the OER resource GeoGebra
  • Use basic & advanced features of GeoGebra
  • Create their own interactive math applets with GeoGebra (including animations)
  • Create tutorials of interactive tools using screen cast software
  • Contribute created tools and resources to the online environment of teachers and students

Use New & Innovative Hardware

Students will use a variety of technology hardware:
  • Digital Camera & Scanner
  • Drawing Pad & iPad
  • Livescribe Audio Pen
  • Active Expression Clickers
  • Digital Recorders

The Technology Enhanced Mathematics Program will be offered directly after school and will provide students with all the required hardware, software, and light snacks. The activities will begin promptly at 2:30 and end at 3:30 in order to assure all students late bus access. This program will extend from December to April and will be offered at each high school location. Student participation is voluntary and students must have a parent or guardian signed permission slip to participate in this after school activity. The activity permission slip must be returned to the teacher contact prior to participation.

Portland Public Schools Technology Enhanced Mathematics Afterschool Program
